Welcome
Established in 1993, South Dayton Dance Theater is a pre-professional company dedicated to giving young dancers an opportunity to work with first-class teachers and award winning choreographers. SDDT gives their members a glimpse of life as a professional dancer. The dancers are chosen through an audition process and they range in age from eleven to eighteen. They must dedicate themselves to taking ballet classes and modern classes, not to mention a vigorous rehearsal schedule. Throughout the year, the dancers get opportunities to perform throughout the Miami Valley, including a Spring Concert and, everyone's holiday favorite, The Nutcracker.
This organization has given birth to many of the United States' professional dance companies including Pennsylvania Ballet, Atlanta Ballet, Boston Ballet and our own Dayton Ballet, just to name a few. Companies must be evaluated and accepted into this prestigious organization. Every year an adjudicator is sent out to observe classes and pieces of choreography from each company. Each year a dance festival is held within each region. There, company dancers as well as their faculty are reevaluated to ensure the highest quality of training. Some of the best teachers from around the world come to instruct the dancers and then the companies get a chance to perform for one another. South Dayton Dance Theater has been given Honor status within RDA, a very prestigious title bestowed on only a few elite companies within the organization. SDDT was also one of only five companies from across the United States invited to perform at the esteemed International Ballet Competition in Jackson, MS in 2010.
South Dayton Dance Theater is also part of Regional Dance America (RDA)/Northeast. South Dayton Dance Theater's mission is to train first class dancers in a fun and healthy atmosphere and to give them a taste of what being a professional dancer is all about. Please support us in creating the next generation of dancers, teachers, choreographers, artistic directors and dance enthusiasts. |
